Ann Curry

Ann Curry was born in America and is an accomplished photographer as well as a journalist. Over the past forty-five years, she has concentrated her work on reporting the suffering of people, particularly during war and natural catastrophes. Curry covered the conflicts that raged in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo, and Central African Republic. Curry is known for reporting emergencies and disasters that affect the human condition, especially in countries which have suffered the effects of the war. Curry's father served as a sailor in the U.S. Navy and her mother was Japanese. The couple met when their father was in Japan in the aftermath of World War II. As a result of her father's active military duty, the family travelled often. Curry was a high school graduate at Ashland Oregon. In 1978 she graduated in 1978 from her school at the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism. It is possible that her experiences with different cultures as well as her life experiences influenced the empathetic way she communicates about international issues. She was the first woman news reporter for the station at was just 22. Then, she stepped into the role of anchor and reporter at KGW KGW, which was an NBC affiliate station located in Portland. Then, four years later, she relocated to Los Angeles and became a journalist at KCBS TV. The two Emmy Awards were won during the six years she worked for the KCBS-TV.
